Fortnite Introduces New Anti-Cheat Requirements and Takes Legal Action Against Cheaters

Competitive integrity is a major focus for Fortnite, and developer Epic Games is continuing its fight against cheaters and unfair gameplay. The company recently announced updated anti-cheat requirements for PC players along with strong legal action against individuals involved in cheating and illegal activities.

New Anti-Cheat Requirements for PC Players

Starting February 19, Fortnite will require additional security features for players participating in tournaments on PC. These updates are designed to strengthen the game’s protection against cheat software and hardware.

Players must enable the following three security features:

  • Secure Boot

  • TPM (Trusted Platform Module)

  • IOMMU

The IOMMU security technology helps the operating system control how hardware devices interact with system memory. This makes it harder for cheat hardware to access game data and manipulate gameplay.

According to Epic Games, around 95% of PC players who run Windows 11-compatible systems already meet these requirements or can enable them without upgrading hardware.

Epic Games Takes Legal Action Against Cheaters

Along with improving security technology, Epic Games is also taking legal action against people who break the rules.

Recently, the company filed a case against a player who used cheats in Fortnite and launched DDoS attacks on the game’s servers. As a result, the player received a lifetime ban from all Epic Games services.

Throughout 2025, Epic Games also took several other actions against rule breakers:

  • A tournament cheater ignored a lawsuit and the court ruled in Epic’s favor, resulting in a $175,000 penalty.

  • Legal action was taken against a developer who created and sold cheating software.

  • Settlements were reached with individuals involved in account theft, cheat selling, and helping others cheat.

Epic Games stated that anyone involved in illegal activities related to Fortnite may face permanent bans, legal consequences, and financial penalties.

How Fortnite Continues to Fight Cheating

To keep the game fair for everyone, Fortnite uses multiple protection methods including:

  • Advanced detection systems and machine learning

  • Kernel-level protection from Easy Anti-Cheat

  • Fixing game exploits before they spread

The company also encourages players to report suspicious behavior using the in-game reporting system, which helps identify cheaters more quickly.

Keeping Fortnite Fair for Everyone

With stronger security requirements and ongoing legal enforcement, Epic Games aims to protect competitive gameplay and ensure a fair experience for the entire Fortnite community.

Players are encouraged to follow the rules, report suspicious activity, and enjoy the game in a fair environment
